LL-37 is a 37-amino-acid antimicrobial peptide derived from the C-terminus of the human cathelicidin precursor protein (CAMP / hCAP-18). It is the only known cathelicidin in humans and a central component of the innate immune defense system at epithelial surfaces.
Research has investigated LL-37 for its direct antimicrobial activity against bacteria, fungi, and enveloped viruses, as well as its broader immunomodulatory roles including chemotaxis, wound healing, and angiogenesis. It is a key research tool in innate immunity and host defense biology.
