SNAP-8 is a synthetic octapeptide (acetyl glutamyl heptapeptide-1) modeled on the N-terminal region of SNAP-25, a SNARE complex protein involved in neurotransmitter vesicle docking and release at the neuromuscular junction. By competing with native SNAP-25 for inclusion in the SNARE complex, SNAP-8 has been shown to attenuate vesicular release in research models.
Research has investigated SNAP-8 in cosmetic and dermatological contexts, particularly as a topical research compound studied for its effects on dynamic expression lines through localized modulation of neuromuscular signaling.
